Just like in sight we normally run through a very targeted window of listening. For instance, as somebody is speaking to us we're targeted on what they're saying. Likewise with listening to the tv and listening towards the radio. Or perhaps perhaps listening to an announcement on the train station. Usually we'll concentrate our perception of listening from a single sound to the subsequent sound. As we pay attention to and concentrate on one sound we're frequently not conscious of any other sounds around us such as the bird calling from behind. Or the rustle in the leaves overhead. Or perhaps the movements of the lizard to our left during your meditation.
However indigenous people are in a heightened state of listening. As someone is speaking they're also conscious of the sound of the bird singing in the distance. Or even the motion of an animal to their left. They are aware of all of the sounds surrounding them.
Within the subsequent couple of posts you're about to find out how to expand your sense of hearing in order to feel the sense of 360 degree stereo surround sound.
At the start of my nature meditation I will generally firstly go into 3-D eyesight after which spend a few moments tapping into my perception of 360 degree stereo surround hearing. Heading through all of the senses similar to this gets me into 'the zone' and allows me to drop in more to my sixth sense and into the religious world beyond the one we all know. It's like as I heighten every one of my predominant five senses the veil between the ordinary world which we live and the spiritual world beyond the one we all know begins to raise. That's usually when we begin to enter into non-ordinary reality exactly where the perception of time and space begins to distort.
The first step to heighten your sense of sound would be to shut your eyes and become aware of your inner hearing. Towards the sounds taking place inside your body. For instance you will probably become aware of the sound of one's breathing. Of the noise produced along your nostrils while you breathe in and out.
Or maybe you'll become aware of the sound of one's saliva as you swallow. In the sound it makes in your mouth and your throat and perhaps a click within your ears while you swallow.
Or perhaps you become conscious in the sound your heart makes within your chest as it beats. While you pay attention within you may also become aware in the sound of your blood pumping via different parts of one's system. Or perhaps you become conscious of the sounds inside your digestive system. Of little gurgles as fluids transfer all through your system.
